Master of Science in Disaster and Humanitarian Aid Management (Turkish)

About the Program

Disaster and Humanitarian Aid Management Programme is organized under the coordination of Political Science and Public Administration Department and it aims to graduate students in the fields of social sciences and health sciences to specifically work on disasters and aid in both public and private institutions in Turkey and abroad.

Disaster and Humanitarian Aid Management Programs include pre-disaster recovery and restructuring activities, including risk reduction and preparation strategies, search and rescue at the time of disaster, and humanitarian activities afterwards in case of a potential disaster. An effective disaster management depends on the existence of national disaster policies, interdisciplinary studies, and the  culture of disaster. Structurally, disaster management includes many different occupanital groups, specialties, methods, techniques, administrative and legal processes. So, it is essential to evaluate disaster management as an interdisciplinary management area. Thanks to this program, it is expected that Turkey, as a country faced with several disasters in the history, will achieve more effective and functional disaster management via qualified human resources. In the evaluation regarding the application areas of disaster policies, it is seen that traditional approach focuses on crisis management and produces local scale policies while strategic approach adopt a broader perspective and applications. Traditional method considers disaster management and humanitarian aid as part of engineering while  strategic approach adopt a broader perspective which includes multi-disciplinary, economic, social and environmental issues. This program adopts a strategic understanding that will ensure cooperation between public employees, NGOs, private sector, business professionals, representatives of professional organizations together with researchers and academicians who carry out scientific research in this field. Disaster and Humanitarian Aid Management Master Program, which is inherently interdisciplinary, is designed to deal with the main problems of humanity, disaster and humanitarian aid, from a social sciences perspective, and to ensure a more effective management in the policy development and implementation process.
