PhD in Economics is suited for individuals who wish to improve their research skills in economics and to pursue a career in academia.
Our academic staff, having international experience in teaching and research, ensures to give students a comprehensive understanding of economics through various courses and supervision.
This program enables students to specialize in different fields of economics by offering courses in various sub-fields. In addition to core courses such as Microeconomics and Macroeconomics, the program offers courses such as Health Economics, Education Economics, Experimental Economics, Behavioral Economics, Energy Economics, Game Theory, Development Economics, and Economics of Innovation.
The aim of PhD in Economics is to train researchers who are able to conduct interdisciplinary studies in cooperation with other fields of social sciences.
Apart from MSc and PhD programs that mainly follow the standard Economics curricula, the Economics Department also designed three different track options for graduate students who wish to pursue expertise in specific research areas.
Track options:
1. Development Economics
2. Political Economy
3. Islamic Economics
Track requirements:
1. Completion of an additional course (required by the track chosen)
2. Writing thesis/dissertation in a research area compatible with the track chosen
Track benefits:
1. Specialization in a research area
2. Acquiring more in-dept knowledge in a specific research area
3. Supplement to the graduate diploma that indicates the track followed
Note that tracks are opt-out by default. This means that a graduate student is considered to be in the standard program unless a track option is preferred to be followed by the student.
Moreover, following a track is non-binding. This means that a graduate student who chooses to follow a track can later on decide to graduate without completing the track. Similarly, a graduate student in the standard program can later on decide to complete the requirement of a track.

Application Calendar and Evaluation

Applicants are ranked based on an initial evaluation carried out by weighting 50% of ALES score and 50% of GPA. The number of candidates invited to science exams can be up to five times the quota. Three points after comma in decimals are taken into consideration in the ranking of applicants. If more than one candidate rank last with the same score, all these candidates are invited to entrance examination.
After applications are accepted, a science exam is held on the announced date. The application results are determined by weighting 50% of ALES score, 20% of GPA, and 30% of science exam score. Based on this evaluation, candidates who have earned a score of 75 and above are deemed successful. Successful candidates are ranked according to general evaluation scores (in cases of equal general evaluation scores, science exam scores are taken into consideration), and a number of candidates and substitute candidates as specified by quotas are announced in the institute's website.

Applications are evaluated by taking into account acceptance requirements of the program and international student quotas. The evaluation result is sent to the applicant's e-mail address.
For transfer applications, the applicant must bring the required documentation to our institute in person during the application period.
