Master of Arts in Cultural Policy and Management (Turkish)

About the Program

The fact that there are not enough graduate-level programs in our country that examine, regulate, and/or make concrete suggestions about cultural policies, management, and cultural production is one of the main reasons for opening the program. The program will bring the management of cultural policies to an academic basis and it will prepare the ground for the managers and personnel involved in the policymaking and implementation process to gain an academic awareness and formation. In addition, examining Turkey's rich and multidimensional cultural fields such as history, tourism, art, architecture, and literature will contribute to national and international scientific knowledge. Considering that Anatolian geography has been a cultural center since ancient times, the importance of cultural policy management is seen in terms of evaluating Turkey's cultural heritage. In this context, this program deals with Turkey-specific processes, dynamics, and perspectives of cultural institutions, places, and cultural policies in Turkey. It also shows the dynamic relationship of culture and art with the political structure. The fact that the program is designed as an interdisciplinary program that aims to provide a productive environment for political, economic, and cultural actors to work together and exchange ideas. Thus, the Master of Arts in Cultural Policy Management will provide a necessary interdisciplinary framework for both positioning Turkey's rich and multidimensional cultural heritage within the world cultural history and analyzing it from a versatile perspective. Within the scope of the program, academic activities that will support the development of cultural policies and the strengthening of cultural institutions will be carried out with the joint participation of all actors of the cultural field.

It is aimed that the students who will graduate from this program will work as expert personnel in the relevant public institutions and organizations, central and local government institutions especially Ministry of Culture and Tourism, museums, institutions operating in librarianship, private institutions operating in the field of culture, art, and tourism, and national and international non-governmental organizations. Graduates will be able to continue their academic careers on cultural policies if they choose.

Applicants are ranked based on an initial evaluation carried out by weighting 50% of ALES score and 50% of GPA. The number of candidates invited to science exams can be up to five times the quota. Three points after comma in decimals are taken into consideration in the ranking of applicants. If more than one candidate rank last with the same score, all these candidates are invited to entrance examination.

After applications are accepted, a science exam is held on the announced date. The application results are determined by weighting 50% of ALES score, 20% of GPA, and 30% of science exam score. Based on this evaluation, candidates who have earned a score of 65 and above are deemed successful. Successful candidates are ranked according to general evaluation scores (in cases of equal general evaluation scores, science exam scores are taken into consideration), and a number of candidates and substitute candidates as specified by quotas are announced on the institute's website.
